Cartoonist must be a non-athlete. Jersey numbers are rarely featured so prominently on the front of baseball/softball jerseys. Football? Yes. Basketball? Yes, but smaller than football. Hockey? Almost never. Baseball jerseys that do have numbers on the front are usually underneath the lettering in a much subtler size. Besides, he totally misses an opportunity for a joke with the team’s name.
I really like Mike’s style, and I got the joke. I find the way the numbers pop amusing, and I certainly like the way the hats ride comically on the players. I really didn’t think to criticize the drawing design; it’s a cartoon, a creative instrument for the artist. Mike does a good job. Those of us who come here enjoy him. But, as Jimmy Durante used to philosophize, “Everyone’s a critic!”
