Roxanne, I am surprised you ever leave the mirror to grace us with your purplie prescence on the sidewalk. I notice that you even have the “Ballard Brooch” over your head. Aren’t you a bit young for that?

Do you get your ears permed at Susan’s Hair salon for Humans etc., and Non Toxic Pest Control?

In any event, you are a stunning addition to the Ballard Street canine population, and you give Miss Millie High Maintenance a run for the kibble.

Happy, I hope you have survived your ordeal in one piece. If you need to replace your plywood inserts, come on by the shop.

Roxanne is a Pompomeranian.

Oh boy. Millie has some competition.

Things could get ugly.

Roxanne takes every excuse to walk by Millie High Maintenance’s house and flaunt her magnificence. Then she sashays by Scooter’s house to show him what he could have had if he hadn’t been so stuck up in obedience class.

Stel’s Costume Annex has a special on doggie wear this week.

And yes Little Miss Millie High Maintenance is desperately trying to get through the doggie door.

Unfortunately she too has donned a tiara and Velvet Robes And they won’t fit.

Alas she can only stare ( and bark) mournfully at Roxie getting ever near to Scooters, knowing he will fall for the glamor and glitz.

Roxanne is, indeed, a lovely dog…

But I don’t think she’s that much competition for Miss Millie High Maintenance.

She’s pretty full of herself, and likes to parade about, basking in the stares and compliments, and playing hard to get.

Miss Millie is fussed over, it’s true, and rather spoiled…

but I don’t think she realises it.

She’s always been a pretty little dog, and she takes all the attention from her adoring owners… and from half the male dogs in Ballard County… with a shrug.

She just expects to be admired.

Her owner does bring her to my salon to get her nails painted a glittery pink, and her fur fluffed…..

even occasionally tinted a pale strawberry hue….

But she likes the “boys” ….

She plays with them in quite tomboy fashion, ignoring their amorous intentions,

except for Scooter’s, of course….

and the boys go crazy for her anyway.

Good morning Sheriff.

All i know is the Millie Mile High is not going to be amused.

I hope someone has a spray bottle (or hose) available.

I don’t do much assuaging myself. Just walking around being awesome is good for the people in the village, I figure.

Pride goeth before a fall and the way she’s done up this could be soon.

Everything was going adoringly for Roxanne until she ran into that nosy and noisy Cyrano de Borzoi-rack !

He followed her around like a bloodhound on a scent, which was a pretty silly thing for an aristocratic Russian wolfhound to do.

Rusty Boy, Scooter, Thor, and the rest of the macho mutts, snickered and encouraged Cyrano in his ridiculous pursuit of love, knowing how much his amorous attentions annoyed and embarrassed Roxanne, since his antics distracted attention from her to him. She was supposed to be the center of attention, not that canine clown !

( Pssst. Word on the street is that passionate persistence has paid off – possibly puppies ?? )

Assuage is an interesting word. Depending on whether what is being assuaged is a negative or a positive, the meaning of the word changes:

make (an unpleasant feeling) less intense.

synonyms: relieve, ease, alleviate, soothe, mitigate, allay, palliate, abate, suppress, subdue, moderate, lessen, diminish, reduce

satisfy (an appetite or desire).

synonyms: satisfy, gratify, appease, fulfill, indulge, relieve, slake, sate, satiate, quench, check

So, do her owners wish to mitigate or gratify her natural pridefulness? ☺

This is such an enlightening strip.. I… learned a new word today.. assuage.

Rooooooooooooxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnne! You don’t have to put on that red dress… :)
