Something special about attending outdoor games. Took my father-in-law to one game where it went from clear, to rain, to sleet, to snow. Another where it was -25 with wind chill, and you had to break through a thin layer of ice between sips of beer while tailgating. The best is when its fall 55-60 and sunny.
It used to be a tradition, with some of my Connecticut cousins, that they’d go to the Harvard-Yale football games at Yale Bowl. None of them ever attended Yale or Harvard but were aficionados of the Yale Tailgate Party tradition.
There was always more fun outside the stadium than watching the game….although the Yale band was always entertaining ( You’d have to have seen them to understand what I mean – they were the antithesis of a typical university marching band ).
When I think of college football, I fondly remember those Yale-Harvard classics. Go Bulldogs !
