My Dad and his friend Ernie and Ernie’s dog, Coco would go pheasant hunting and my Mom would pack roast beef sandwiches with lettuce. Coco hated lettuce. You could give her a piece of sandwich with the tiniest piece of lettuce in it, and she would wallow it around in her mouth until she found it and spit it out. They could NEVER fool her. :)
I have a purebred male Siberian Husky who gets a “salad” atop both his morning and evening meals of dry kibble, broken dog biscuits and boiled chicken with broth. I put his bowl down on the kitchen floor and he sits beside it patiently until I place the salad atop it – and THEN he eats. (and he’s not particularly ‘fond’ of Iceberg lettuce, ether, he prefers the fancy kind in the plastic boxes at the grocery store.
I DO also have two female “rescue” dogs who share MY philosophy of, “If it’s slow enough to catch; it’s good enough to eat!”, but they won’t touch ANY KIND of salad, at all, ever!

And if it means you get to see funny faces like that on a regular basis, that’s even more motivation!

My dog Lois just loves lettuce. She gets so excited when I give her a piece.
