They’re smart enough to get on the public payroll, with better benefits than we get.

Yup, nicompoopery abounds by the vast majority of elected officials. The best way to neutralize that is to give the government as little power as possible somthat the idiocy doesnt spread out of the halls of politics and into the lives of average citizens. That mans small government with low budgets and very limited power in a very tiny scope of functions.
