I sort of think that to tone Fritzi down as much as it seems she has been changes the back story. Fritzi went to LA to try to become a breakout in the movie industry…so it would follow that she was ‘starlet hot’ as far as dress and looks when whatever tragedy happened that placed Nancy into her care. Since in the realm of the comic time passes but the characters never age, Fritzi would still be ‘starlet hot’ albeit perhaps toned down in dress due to surrogate parenthood. Right now, as she is drawn, she lacks all that made Fritzi Fritzi. But, I could say the same about Nancy’s teacher and many of the other players on the present stage…they lack life and believability.
Fritzi Ritz started out as a rail thin flapper in the 1920’s so she wasn’t a sultry honey pot of pulchritude as she has been misrepresented for decades.
This strip rather reminds me of my family‘s ancestral home in Scotland, Castle Culzean (the z is silent), where the chairs set out for on-call servants to use while the Laird entertained his friends all night have seats that slant to the front, so that if you fall asleep, you land on the floor.
I tend to like Olivia Jaimes Nancy comic strips so far, I realize it’s not the same as mr Bushmiller in style or storyline, but let’s give Olivia a chance, I mean she has just begun work on a comic strip that’s be in publication for over 80 years… so I’m giving her a thumbs up!

Won’t work, Aunt Fritzi. Kids are just as happy to lie on their beds or the floor…

Was this supposed to be stand up comedy?

All these things she should do, and she goes with the laziest option. Fritzi and Nancy have more in common than either would like to admit.

Fritzi has learned the lesson of Starbucks. Don’t make the chairs truly comfy.

Fritzi must have gotten her inspiration from Woody Allen’s “Sleeper”:
