So Hubbs’ dad left them when he was old enough to remember, now I know which character on the strip I can say I hate! He’s not a real man if he abandoned his family, remember that Hubbs!
When did he say hugging him would cross the line? Guess I don’t remember that strip. That’s interesting regarding the idea that Ellie doesn’t realize that Hubbs thinks she’s a guy… and you would think she’d have figured it out by now, given the first panel of this strip: https://www.gocomics.com/in-security/2018/08/27 She knows she’s “taking the Ellie magic down a notch”, but she really hasn’t figured out the end result of it…?
cue the crying violins…Football teams have try-out camps looking for prospects all the time. There’s also the indoor league and various regional “minor” leagues, also the CFL…the point is there are plenty of ways to show off your skills and get noticed if you get off the pity pot…
You could find a loving woman, make some sons with her, teach them everything you know about football and then live your dream vicariously through their exploits.

If this keeps up, I think Ellie WILL cross the line ; the human heart can only bear so much pain.

Hubbs, it is a game, not a pale cetacean.

How the heck did he get to be an accountant, even a grunt, without any kind of college degree, is what I’M wondering.

From what we saw of Hubbs’s mother, I would think Hubbs’s father left for some other reason than bad football.

Question: Who gave Hubbs the football in the first place? Who wants to bet it was Dear ol’ Daddy?

He doesn’t give up – a really good trait for a person. Grab him while you can, Ellie.
