Nothing beats the actual fresh smell of a live tree, at least for awhile anyway. The potential mess after the holidays is always a challenge before the tree decomposes and sheds all its needles. Problem is real live trees are getting so expensive it’s getting harder and harder to justify the expense, plus a waste of a beautiful tree growing. The newer artificial ones are getting more and more realistic every year and while they can be expensive up front they are reusable for many years. Solution – go artificial and get a can of pine spray as needed. Artificial squirrels are optional.

When I was a teen, my nickname was “The Mouse” and we have quite a few mouse-ornaments on our tree. Living in the country, we get enough real mice without trying!

Somewhere in our boxes of ornaments, we have a blown-glass squirrel.

Cut my own tree this year and last. One of the great advantages of living in the mountains. Love the smell of fresh fir.

Spruce it up with a furry ornament.
