There used to a be a human operator telling us the time. Try to get her to answer another question before she cuts off! I once got her to tell me the date. September 26, must have been around 1974.

Well, it was a dark and stormy night …

It’s been a long, long time since there was a human operator behind that “OPER 0” button (or the “0” on the rotary dial) on the phone… I haven’t pushed it in years, but I wonder what would happen if I did? :-)

When I was a kid, you could call a number, and a recorded voice would read you a brief story. I think it was called “Storyline.” Anyone else remember this?
