I have a Honda mower and a push Reel mower. Last summer I had the Reel mower out and was getting a quick cut on my front lawn, when some little kids rode by on bikes. The next thing I knew, the kids had all come back and were watching me go back and forth on the lawn. I stopped to look at them, and one of them asked me “What is that?” I guess they couldn’t figure out why it was so silent as I walked along cutting the grass. Funny.
I mowed our yard, which was pretty small, with one of those when I was a teenager. They actually work very well and are easy to use as long as the blades stay sharp. But when the blades get dull, just try finding someone to sharpen them.
Although come to think of it, there’s probably a YouTube video on it somewhere.
Had to mow the lush grass on our Allentown PA monster lawn with a hand lawn mower with high handle. I wasn’t very tall. Decades later when I had a home on Overland Park KS I bought a Scotts Silent mower. Was a delight. So easy to push. My two sons loved to use it. My older son, now 57, has had it for years & it still works well!
when we first moved to the country we had that type of mower. I was too young to use it fortunately so it was my older brothers who got to tell my dad the lawn was too big to use that type of mower. Even a riding mower would take close to an hour to cut all of our grass.

Parents still have the same gas-powered, Honda-brand push mower from my childhood days. Runs A.O.K. after 40ish years.

Try mowing an acre with a push mower in the hot August sun of Oklahoma. No wait. Don’t. I used to do that and hated it.
