Babies take naps, young children take naps, and people Lucy’s age (about 70) take naps, so why don’t older children, young adults and middle aged people take naps?
I can’t nap. For some reason, I can’t fall asleep during the day. Even as a child. I remember being about 9 and wanting to stay up to watch something special (I think it was “West Side Story”). My mother told me I could if I took a nap. I went to my room, turned off the night, got into bed…and just stayed there for about 2 hours, wide awake. I honestly DID try; my mom let me stay up. Heck, even if I’m sick with a high temperature, I can’t nap.
1950 at a 2 month camp in East Waterford Maine, naps were for the counselors. I had just gone into a light doze while my cabin’s 8 kids were talking. One was from Massachusetts, & had a wonderful New England accent. He yelled: “Quiet, Gawdy is Sleepin”. Made Banjo Gordy laugh, & my nap was ovah!

When I was a child I thought nap time was a punishment, now I think nap time as more of a reward.

I can relate to that.

I never truly appreciated naps until I arrived at college. Since then, I never looked back …
