Many years ago, I was driving to work. I changed radio stations. My reaction to what I heard was “How odd. This is Beethoven’s 9th symphony. They don’t play classical music on this program.” But, the music changed to the tune from the Beatles’ “Let It Be.” It went back-and-forth, smoothly changing between Beethoven’s 9th symphony and "Let It Be.
It reached the point where the soloist sang the introduction to the chorale part, the beginning of which which Schroeder is shown singing in the first panel. There was a pop followed by silence. I thought “What happened? Did someone shoot the baritone?” It proceeded with the music for the “Ode to Joy”, but the words were those of “Let It Be.”

“Ode to Joy” from Beet 9th Symphony. Now it is also the European Anthem.

So Beethoven was writing symphonies for free? Sorry, Schroeder, but composers created music to earn a living back in 1824, too.

Superintendent: “All you have to do is sing Beethoven’sOde to Joy from the 9th symphony.”
John Lennon: “Of course, why didn’t you think of that, you twit?”
