I think a perfect alternate ending would have been for some object, be it a pillow, shoe, etc., hit Charlie Brown on the back of the head as he’s walking away. Not seeing the source of the projectile would have led to automatic speculation that Snoopy would have been the guilty party, but, not being able to prove it, would be the fun part.
