    “You’re a real caution.” Don’t think I’ve ever heard that one before, and I’m not sure I even understand what it means.

    It’s not used much any more; I think it was popular in the 30’s-40’s – since this strip appeared in the 50’s, Lucy’s mom would have been born probably in the late 30’s? I’ve seen it used to mean that someone is funny…“Did you hear Bob telling jokes at the party? He’s a real caution!”. I think Lucy’s mom is using it like she would use ‘fussbudget’ later on…someone who complains and is generally hard to deal with.
