He should have just kissed her and been done with it. At least she’d stop complaining about how nobody loves her (although she’d then start complaining about “dog germs”)!
Lucy reminds me of a woman I know. She wants to be loved and cared for, but can’t stop taking people to the woodshed. Her temper has gotten the better of her on many occasions. I’ve talked to her about it all, and she just says this was the way she was raised. But, other members of her family don’t act this way, just her. She does have a son, but that was from a one night stand. The father and her don’t get along at all. Like Lucy, its a pity that neither of them is fully aware enough to change. They rather remind me too of the guy in the White House. Sad.
So that’s why Lucy is so mean. I can relate, girl. But don’t settle for what you don’t want or need: symbolized here in the dog who forces affection and “dog germs” on you. :)

You have got your sights set on a boy you annoy. Though get to high school age and the tables may turn.
