Just retired after $40/hr, healthcare, pension, 401K, all in a career I loved, and with no college degree. And this in a low cost part of the country. Planning ahead works.
He didn’t need a degree to do those things, just hard work.
The same is true today. The vast majority of jobs do not require a degree, regardless of what politicians and teachers might tell you. Learn a trade. There are MILLIONS of unfilled good paying jobs that require skilled labor. But you’ll have to actually get off your ass and get your hands dirty.
Often education begins with vocational training. Unfortunately such is treated worse than Charles Manson these days and has been for more than twenty years.
That’s the way I did it but she is correct. Conditions that existed when I graduated were already slipping away. We just didn’t notice it yet. My daughter graduated from college with a degree that didn’t produce a job but years later she is putting it to good use.
