Dreams of adventure and travel are best left to those who have a quite life at home. When you are homeless the adventure and travel dream wears out immediately.
What we have here is a display of the dichotomy between an entity (Sophy) who possesses a secure environment an entity (Annie) that does not. This has lasting effects on both.
As an example, until recently, I had four dogs, all Siberian Huskies. Two were “Rescues” and two were bought and raised by my wife from puppyhood. Several years into their coexistence as a family, the two rescues STILL had to eat from special bowls because they “wolf” their food down like they have no idea where their next meal is coming from, while the “purchased” puppy dogs have always been “persnickety eaters”, only eating when they’re they’re hungry and then only eating until they’re full – you have no idea how much money my wife has spent trying to find out why “her babies” won’t eat and the Veterinarian NEVER finds anything wrong!
It’s difficult for Annie to play mental games with Sophy when Annie is always wondering what tomorrow will bring. Your mind can’t soar when you have no idea what’s going to happen, tomorrow.

Laser-beam collars can’t buy happiness, but they can rent it for months at a time, if you know who to point them at.
