I think there are plenty of people with a pioneering spirit that would want to colonize Mars. I am not among them but I would want to visit Mars if the travel time could be shortened.

They’d have to build underground to avoid the comic rays that get through the super-thin atmosphere. Like being stuck in a shopping mall day-in day-out. :P

I always asked that myself when somebody enthusiastically dreamed about space travel and visiting our planets. Why would somebody want to stay in an apartment without windows showing the sky and some green for years? And as a “reward” they will have to stay on a planet which would kill everyone in an instant if it weren’t for an astronaut’s suit (a large and clumsy one). No more walks in the park, rides with a bike, visiting of restaurants, theatres, libraries, cinemas, ice cream parlors, beaches, friends, family members, chess clubs, football matches, live concerts, forever only living in an ugly and deadly environment… how insane or stupid must one be to do that? Even if someone would pay me 100 million dollars to travel to Mars and back in five years of time, I would not do it. Nothing could bring me these lost five years back.

The only good Mars ever did was hitting early, molten Earth a angled blow, knocking the heavy atmosphere away and leaving us our present, life-supporting one (AND the Moon)! Yea, Mars!
