Wish they would’ve taught me to sew when I was in middle school and high school. I took typing in high school but that was about it. I graduated from high school in 1972.
/start rant/ Iwanted to take Home Economics in high school, but “Boys” were NOT allowed to take THOSE classes. Conversely, there was a group of “GIRLS” who were NOT allowed to take any shop classes.
You couldn’t get an idea like that past the conservative, stupid, puritanical, paranoid School Board. 8^) /end rant/
But I did end up in senior year with another guy in Advanced French (having been given 3 years with exactly the same books in grade school – It was Camelot, and Jackie liked the French). Quite a battle there, 2 guys with about 15 upper class ‘in’ crowd girls, including the Homecoming queen….. One of my really nice memories of the ’68 class of CONELRAD Atomic Bomb drills

I think that’s a good idea, “makerspace”, I mean. Helps with making school relevant too, I’m sure.

In 9th grade I took Home Ec. learned to sew, cook and balance the checks. Loved it. I don’t think they have it anymore.

Encourage him to sew. Many famous designers are men.
