Well, that explains about half the DJs at most of the company Christmas parties I’ve been to. The ones who look at you with scorn when you plead for tunes that can actually dance to.
I DJ’d in a northern town during Disco times. I owned the local record shop and got Billboard to know what was hot in the South. Also Disco singles were available only to shops so I played what New York and Montreal were doing. The other DJ had his favorites play list which not everyone liked. I also learned how to do a tempo cycle to get slow dancers up to. I was on call paramedic and had a 12" tape reel set up, complete with breaks, just in case. Ambulance was parked at back door.
