Liz, next time just grab the donut and eat it. Garfield loves you and he’ll understand.

Hey… when did the donut go from glazed to pink frosting?

I think he’s holding the donut upside down, turns it on its edge, and the flips it upright into his mouth. Or it could be the other way around.

panel one: You see his ‘thumb’ as he holds the doughnut slightly downward. As he brings it up towards his interspatial interface, (mouth), he rotates it so the frosted side and his three, (why always three? Can’t ANY cartoonist count to four?), ‘fingers’ are showing.

    ever-helpful mark.

In panel one, the doughnut is in the shadows and when Garfield raises it up, it gets in the light and it’s real color becomes apparent. Either that or Jim drew it before he had his coffee.

@magnamax: All cartoonists can count to 4. It’s 5 that they have trouble with.

I believe Douglas was referring to yesterday’s (?) glazed donut nightmare.

I listen attentively to my Doctor, then go out and buy a gallon of chocolate ice cream.

    OK, everyone, here’s the deal.

Garfield is holding the donut frosting side down in panel #1 ready to eat it and stops because Liz is trying to make a point about self control.

Garfield is now holding the donut up on end so we can see the pink frosting in panel two. This is because he is weighing the import of what Liz said…

Panel #3: Garfield’s typical response. No self control and reckless abandon to hedonism as he blames others for everything. Jim Davis is pointing out the shallow, selfish, self serving and self gratifying norm of American culture as Garfield personifies the rationalizations we make while surrendering to sin and serving our selves - rather than our Creator. Note how many times the characters in this comic ponder the meaning of life, are bored, listless and have no REAL purpose to their being. When you know God and have real relationship with Him through His Son (notreligion.com), all these questions are answered.

You can’t really talk like that to Jim Davis. Everyone makes a mistake. Also, he’s mistakes are very hard to see. Got it?

@IdahoSpud Reminds me of the movie set in the future where if anything is bad for you it has been banned. (I can’t remember the name of the movie right offhand. I think it starred Wesley Snipes and Bruce Willis.)

    frrykid:

That movie sounds familiar, but I can’t find it.

Is it Demolition Man? Someone on IMDb said that one had Wesley Snipes, Sylvester Stallone, and Sandra Bullock. Everything bad for you is forbidden and old commercial jingles have worked their way into the common language as regular expressions.

Yes, that would be the right one. Old commercial jingles are played on the radio, and people sing them, as if they were real music. ALL restaurants are Taco Bell, because it’s the only one that survived the franchise war. And EVERYTHING that might potentially be bad for you has been banned. (Including sex.) Oh yeah, and they don’t have toilet paper any more…

I can’t tell if it’s chocolate glazed and pink dyed dough, or pink frosting and chocolate dough.
