Pay cut is the song sung during the past 40+ years. Where pensions are gone and you don’t get to work one job your entire life. And that job won’t pay enough for a family anymore. That is Regress, not Progress.
I suppose that is what support groups are for. Help you to accept your issues and then work beyond them. It appears Mike has accepted his situation. Now he is ready to move forward.
We had one fellow in our job seeking group that was totally negative, always whining about he had only one skill that was now obsolete, and he kept being let go “for no reason” and not doing anything to spruce up his appearance or advance his skillset. He was such a downer, the group leader was considering kicking him out. And then the guy got a job, completely to his own and everyone else’s surprise!
Statistics Canada announced last week that the unemployment rate had gone up. The reason? More people were back looking for work. In other words, they’ve been lying about jobless numbers for so long it’s finally come back to bite them in the butt!

“A bit of a pay cut”, meaning, of course, that she’ll have to find at least two more jobs to make rent…

It appears that Mike is wearing a robe and pajamas. A clear-cut way to make an impression.

Mike has to be authentic about it.

If the pay cut is small, fine. Otherwise it has to come with a rent cut. Landlords are robbing people blind these days.

I like that the silhouette of the coffee urn has a “personality”, like that of the addictive Mr. Butts.
