I was the same way as a “tweenager” with White Castles (or Krystal burgers in the South). I decided that instead of french fries and pie for dessert, I would order 2 extra burgers for the nearly the same price.
Actually, as a nitpicker (who’s also a diabetic) I can assure you that “Big Sugar” has conned most food companies into adding enough “sugar” to regular foods to be able to call ANY meal “dessert” without too much of a stretch.
Sugar and salt are added to make inferior foodstuffs palatable for human consumption.
I don’t think Rover is in danger, yet, though – there are cheaper contaminants than sucrose with which to bulk up animal foods. And, for the most part, animals aren’t attracted to the same “tastes” as humans, though “sweet” appears to be an almost universal attractant.
