It’s been brought up in other comics that Gracie’s family is concerned that she may be reading too much instead of doing things that they consider normal for little girls (like playing with dolls), by letting everyone think that she’s playing with a doll they stop worrying about how much she’s reading and she still gets to enjoy her book.I remember my mom once told me that one of my elementary teachers was concerned about how much I was reading and expressed concerns that I may not be able to relate to the real world because I was so involved with fiction, but I’ve never had a problem putting a book down and dealing with real life (unless you consider the fact that I’m an unpublished author to be a problem).

Is she reading it upside-down? The cover looks like it is on the opposite side of the book….

they never mentioned why her mother died and they have shown Baldo when he was little and no Gracie. Did she die in childbirth?

Gracie will find other comfort in bed, eventually, for a while, but ultimately, she will find that nothing replaces a good book for companionship.
