We live on a quiet street and we see dogs walked all the time. I see so many being tugged along every time they stop to sniff and wonder why the dogs aren’t allowed to enjoy the walk.
Quick story from a former life assistant teaching basic obedience puppy class:
86 year old man had lost his wife and was just sitting in the house waiting for his turn.
His daughter was having none of it and got him a Sheltie (mini-collie), one of the more high energy breeds. Because of difference in energy levels we thought walking on leash was going to be challenging for both of them.
Nah – When he gave her the “heel” command, she would make circles by his side and matched his slow gait perfectly, even sitting properly when he stopped. One of the greatest dog – owner bonding I have ever seen. Still bring tears to my eyes thinking about them.

To become an older dog walker, you must first be a dog walker. That helps you get to the older part.
