Pedmar: Thanks for the link about the Nancy article from my local newspaper, which did a piece in the actual print edition when Olivia restarted Nancy. The odd thing is the paper in print or online doesn’t run Nancy. : )
I am beginning to wonder if this rather long series of comics about Nancy striving for fame is in part a (twisted a bit for humor) reflection of some of Olivia’s own feelings about fame herself. At one level, she has really gotten some pretty good, national coverage with her transition as the new author of Nancy, but at the same time, she has worked fairly strenuously to have at least a fairly strong sense of anonymity too.
In a larger context, I can understand the notion of wanting the “glory” aspect of fame…. wanting to be recognized as valuable, good, approved, “important”… we all crave that to some degree. Maybe Nancy is reflecting the intensity of that desired outcome (being viewed as valuable, good, approved, “important” that were feelings that Olivia has felt…. juxtaposed with the conflict Olivia may also be feeling about either the loss of anonymity or perhaps the negative repercussions that also accompany fame as well? These are just thoughts that I have been pondering the last several day’s panels.
