I often wonder if those telemarketers are really trying to sell me something or if they are conducting tests to see how gullible people are.

About 7 to 10 days ago it was proudly announced in the newspaper that some phone scammers were identified. Better yet….the ones in the U.S. were actually found and arrested!!! (Woo hoo). The foreign call center ones were based in the Philippines and elsewhere in Europe….I assume they are still active for other scams. This particular scam was about medical braces for the back and knees, which could be fully paid for by Medicare/Medicaid if you qualify. I had even seen such a commercial on TV with almost the same dialogue. In many cases you do receive a brace but, it is an inferior one, for the amount of $ Medicare pays this advertiser! People answering these calls are asked to give out personal information….SSN, Medicare/Medicaid ID #s, etc. I was receiving these ROBOCALLS almost daily for several months…never answering them…and reporting them each time on Whitepages.com, and, finally, once (I finally picked up and asked to speak to an agent to whom I began ranting, and was just on the verge of cursing her out when she got the message before I let loose and hung up on me). I answered this call as the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY wants to know if you requested the caller to cease contacting you. On Whitepages.com you, at least, can see the complaints from others and see the frequency of such calls. Amazingly I NEVER got another call about back/knee braces…shortly thereafter the American based callers were arrested. Just sayin’.

And you now just confirmed your name and phone number, which will happily share with their fellow telemarketers and scammers.
