Well, if he doesn’t enjoy the puzzles, there’s no reason to do them. But it’s also true that if you do them regularly, you get better at them. He’d also might enjoy them more if he did them online, because the software can give you hints and answers when you get stuck.
Anyone remember the old DOS game, “Sherlock”? I wasted many an hour on it back in the day. A couple of times in the years since, I have hauled it out and played it some more. Here is a page describing it and giving a link to play it online, although it’s unfortunately not compatible with most browsers.
