American Pie replaced El Passo as a DJās favorite record for getting a potty break. Nowadays, the computers that play the songs selected by the big conglomerate that own 100 other stations donāt care.
We have a local station that claims to play a āmix.ā I imagine the same songs are playing at the same time in other markets everywhere. Unfortunately the mix is based on a national āaverageā and doesnāt match the local market preferences as indicated on Fridays when the station queues up listener requests.
And then we had the āGhostbustersā era ā luckily it didnāt last long, but then it was in the background on commercials. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhh!!
American Pie was a little early for me (I was 9). But I remember not being able to do anything without hearing a disco Bee Gees song for a while in the day.
