From Google: "But by considering large compressive pressures under indenters, scientists have calculated that a material called wurtzite boron nitride (w-BN) has a greater indentation strength than diamond. The scientists also calculated that another material, lonsdaleite (also called hexagonal diamond, since it’s made of carbon and is similar to diamond), is even stronger than w-BN and 58 percent stronger than diamond, setting a new record. "
My question: Does “scientists have calculated that …” mean these substances don’t actually exist?
No, it means that the binding strengths of the connections between the atoms are known and the crystalline structure of w-bn is known so the indentation strength can be calculated.
Roz uses Terry Pratchett’s recipe for “Dwarf Bread.”
“Proper dwarf bread has to be not just baked, but forged (with gravel, of course) and dropped in rivers and dried out, and sat on and left, and looked at every day and then put away again. For preference, its use as a cat’s litter box is also recommended. Dwarfs generally devour it with their eyes, because even dwarfs have trouble with devouring it any other way. "
Wurtzite boron nitride and Lonsdaleite under computer simulation has shown that they are harder than diamond but they exist in nature at very small quantities that no physical test has been carried out to verify the simulation.

" Lonsdaleites are a girls best friend" doesn’t seem as catchy as the original…
