There have been no door-to-door sales people where I live for at least 20 years. Unless you count the college kids who are peddling the local paper which I already subscribe to. They come around just once each summer. I do remember the encyclopedia sales people, and the vacuum cleaner sales people, and of course, the Fuller Brush sales people. But that was a very long time ago.
I’ll try again. I have a sign on my door that’s clearly printed, “No sales persons, no solicitors, no politicians”. If one is fool enough to knock, I ask them from the side window “Why I would listen to anyone over 5 who can’t read a sign on a door?”

Hubby and I both spent time after high school selling encyclopedia door-to-door. He was quite good at it. I was not.
