Once Woodstock gets used to the light touch of the electric, and NOT having the throw the carriage back at the end of every line, heâll be fine. If heâs lucky, he might even have a model with auto back spacing to do auto-corrections. Moving from a manual to an electric can easily double your typing speed.
Learned on an IBM Selectric II (non-correcting), using Elite and Pica to learn spacing on business and personal letters. I still have it ingrained that itâs 13 returns for a letter with no letterhead, and 15 for a business letter on letterhead. ;-)
There was a study that found that the average typist gained two pounds of weight in the year following their switching from a manual typewriter to an electric one.
