Thanks, Mr. Cavna, for a timely reference on Independence Day!
There is great significance in the fact that the First Amendment to America’s Constitution establishes protections of free speech, free press, the right of the people to peaceably assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Nor shall Congress lawfully “establish” or prohibit the free exercise of religion.
When Congress (or any other holder of public office) tries to stifle debate on gun proliferation, they should be wary of violating the First Amendment.
The Second Amendment qualifies the right of the people to keep and bear Arms because a “well regulated Militia (is)…necessary to the security of a free State”, and as such, “shall not be infringed”. National Guardsmen, as well as all other well regulated Law Enforcement Officers, be they registered and trained members of the FBI, CIA, DOJ, ATF, and the seemingly innumerable federal, state, and local agencies’ licensed to “keep and bear arms”, exist to ensure the security of a free State.
Unless affiliated with such an agency, or you are lawfully licensed to own a firearm, you should understand the need to scrutinize applicants for firearms diligently. The former trained weapons holders should also understand that there is a “clear and present danger” if untrained, unlicensed, individuals are permitted to own highly specialized weaponry that can cause mass destruction. Nor should ANY individual compile an arsenal of weapons, even under the pretense of being a “collector”. No gunshop should be unguarded.

When the government lies, the truth becomes a traitor. There is no free press. Ask Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning or Edward Snowden.

Freedom is more precious than firearms.
