The director of my last play would ask us a different question every night, one of which was, “If you could have any animal as a pet, what would it be.” I said, “An eighth dachshund.” I took the last of our previous seven to the vet for final treatment (kidney failure) a year ago last month. When it developed that most of the cast named both a real animal and a mythological animal, I added, “A well-behaved dachshund.”
