When I was in New Jersey a few weeks ago, it was pretty muggy until a sudden (half-hour) downpour came Sunday afternoon. Dad, brother, and I — who were out for a walk — had to duck into a gazebo.
We lived in a town where about once a week a big wind storm would come. We children could see it coming like an hour before it hit by a strange cloud in the sky that rolled. “We’ll have to go in in a little while.”
The storm would blow and rain for about half an hour, then go away and it’d be nice again.

I would say that sound was thunder. Turn your duck around and head for home.
