1) Jane’s book isn’t that big of a seller, Mommie Dearest laughs in her face and Jane stews fecklessly.
2) Jane’s book sells, but as an unintentional humor book. Mommie Dearest laughs and Jane stews fecklessly.
3) The book is forgotten until Jane hits rock bottom (read: “They’re making “Hungry Girl” into a movie, and you want me as art director?”). Just before Mommie Dearest comes in to laugh in her face again, the book comes back as a deus ex machina that gives Jane the power to not be a Boomerang and reject her mother’s begging (“You were always my favorite daughter, please give me money!”).

All Jane has to do now is figure out how to do any of these things.

She should work for government, they don’t know how to do this stuff either… but they sure try to make you think they can.
Except that licking the elbow thing. I’m sure they’re good at that.

This can end in 1 of 3 ways:

You forgot:
4) Jane lacks the attention span, talent, or motivation to finish the stupid thing and gives up.
