So we must be getting close to Operation Barbarossa. Geogia Dunn Studios page on her webcomics states that Swan Eaters takes place in the early 1940s in Russia, which puts the strip in WWII. The way the old man is talking sounds like either Germany hasn’t launched the invasion of Russia yet, or it’s just started. My guess is they haven’t launched the invasion yet.
