    I got curious. Went to Google in case anyone wants to know. They were historically the period following the heliacal rising of the star system Sirius, which Greek and Roman astrology connected with heat, drought, sudden thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck.

    Yard work!%*^ It’s rained every bloody day down here in central FL, and the weeds are as high as an elephant’s eye. . .and tough, too. I feel like Mary Lennox when she first discovered the secret garden: a little bit every day. . .
