If OSU is really trying to trademark “The”, that is even more ridiculous than Tom Brady’s trying to trademark “Tom Terrific.”
Mr. Hinds breaking the fourth wall?
How about The Real Ugly Monster Polytechnic?
That actually pales in comparison to the LFC wanting to trademark the name Liverpool.
All depends on how you define “is”.
Lovely punchline.
Along a similar line, it’s always been impossible to patent natural laws and such, but there’s a movement afoot by Big Corporations to change that. Imagine the rush to patent gravity or sunlight and start charging everyone to use it.
IANAL, but I don’t see why they couldn’t trademark the phrase “The Ohio State University.”
Then Ann Arbor trademarks “The University Of Michigan,” and so it goes….
