But if Connie allowed him out in the front yard, heā€™d get hauled away by the looney squad in a jiffy.

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you donā€™tā€¦sometimes you ARE A NUT, sometimes youā€™re not.

    I dunnoā€¦

If sheā€™d let him sit in the front yard, and maybe convince him to pass out ā€¦. say, Hershey kissesā€¦.

(not cookies, cos dogs and squirrels would be begging, and not baby carrots cosā€¦ wellā€¦ carrotsā€¦ )

they could make a lot of new friends.

    Ā

Or maybe Connie doesnā€™t want new friendsā€¦. especially if she thinks theyā€™ll turn out to be fair-weather friends who only showed up for the chocolate.

    How about ā€¦umā€¦. cheese cubes?

No, I can see problems with that.

    Ā

In any case, itā€™s quite possible she doesnā€™t want Carl hauled off to the loony binā€¦

She might be protecting him by keeping him out back.

    Ā

You know, here on Ballard Street, madness isnā€™t quite the deal-breaker it can be in other places.

In fact, in some people itā€™s treasured, ā€¦. and in others, at least well tolerated.

Why do you think I never want to move away?

Because Connie wonā€™t let Carl out front,

itā€™s the back yard thatā€™s bearing the brunt.

Her own Chippendale, with his great bushy tail,

is the king of The Squirrel Nut Huntā€¦

Connie knows to encourage this will only bring more critters. It starts small but soon you will have musk oxen and wildebeest wanting snacks

Next time, try Cheetos. Squirrels LOVE those.

So he is a ā€œFurryā€ from the really bad Christmas movie ā€œPotterā€™svilleā€ ā€“ Iā€™ll be shocked if anyone catches the referenceā€¦
