Nabudquduriuzhur, the first Battle of Bull Run is exactly what came to my mind when I saw this strip, and for exactly the same reason. The pro-Union crowds had actually set up chairs and brought picnic lunches to watch the battle (since they thought it would be a walkover for the Union Army), and were horrified to see the Union get its collective arse handed to it by the Confederates and actually begin its retreat by charging right through the crowd of spectators.
Ever since then, I don’t think anyone has ever considered war to be much of a spectator sport.
@ ilsapadu…how about a buncha Brunhildes
(with full breastplates and horned helmets)
jumping up and down hollering..”.ra..ra..ree..
pushemback…pushemback…waaayyyy..back ?”..
Nabuquduriuzhur said it first. Around here (Northern VA) it just as often called the First Battle of Manassas.
FYI, the term Northern Virginia came into being because of the Civil War. It is not the most northern part of the state, but was the area which was occupied by the Union Army.
Also explains some of the animosity that much of the rest of the state had toward Northern VA.

Rodney got the idea to hide in the catapult. Never get near the Huns.

^Yeah, but no matter where he ends up, the landing is going to hurt.
pamlicorat about 14 years ago
The guy near the catapult is a traitor. You can tell because he has a Hun shield.

Looks like the “air force” is approaching for the fly-over.
