About 100 years or so ago a well known comic actor, Harold Lloyd, used glasses as part of his on screen persona. If you look closely you can see that there are no lenses. He did not wear glasses off set. Nobody knew him without the glasses. Shuster and Siegel read about this a few years later when developing their comic book character. And Clark combs his hair differently as well. Clark also speaks in a slightly higher register.
