A stuck mouse button – even in 1997 – wouldn’t result in sending repeated copies of the same e-mail. Even a stuck keyboard key wouldn’t, because after it’s sent, it disappears from focus. The only even slim possibility would be if you had a keyboard shortcut for “resend e-mail”, but in every e-mail client I’ve ever used, “resend e-mail” always brings up a copy of the original message, and then you have to hit “send” again.
In ancient times before private mailing lists like Yahoogroups, a group of friends and I communicated by emailing everyone at once. One of the members’ jerk of an Internet provider had a glitch, and every email kept replicating like bunnies. Dozens of the same email to each of us for weeks without him fixing the problem. We ended up finding out this guy’s email address and forwarding each email to him and asking him to fix the problem. So, hundreds of emails in a day from this group. He fixed the problem the next day.
