SALLY: Rulers are used to measure things and to draw straight lines...
SALLY In the old days, teachers sometimes used rulers to hit their pupils...
SALLY: ..In the old days!
Amen—I too, went to Catholic schools, and it was not very long after this date—during the 1981-1982 school year—when I was in 7th grade, and the nun I had had for “homeroom” also was the kind, who was known for beating knuckles with rulers. But, these days, though, I believe schools, whether public or parochial, are beginning to draw the line, at letting the teachers “Get away with murder,” so to speak, by letting the teachers, even nuns, beat their students.
