I first encountered Yakko (not the Warner Brother) in a paperback collection my parents had. I disliked the stereotype. But when he was first introduced here, they made it clear that he could actually speak English fluently and without an accent, which subverted the stereotype. He was playing on the ignorance and bigotry of the people around him for his own fun and profit. So I came to like him, though I wish they would have reminded readers of the subversion when he appears after a long absence.
