Edith: Hey, Abby, Peri - I was reading about this movie "Bend it Like Beckham" in the newspaper. It's a British movie that's really catching on in this country. It's a clash-of-cultures comedy about this Indian girl who defies her strict Sikh parents to, get this, play soccer! Abby: Whoa - that's freaky. Peri: Yeah. Edith: What? That there's a movie about girls playing soccer? Peri: No - that you read newspapers.

Fast forward 18 years and newspapers are, in their “paper form” really on their last legs. Some newspapers will survive in a digital or on-line entity but the printed variety is becoming an endangered species. Tampa/St Pete used to have 4 large dailies in the ’70 through the ’90s (2 morning and 2 PM) and many smaller dailies for towns like Largo, Clearwater etc. That is down to one now, the Tampa Bay Times, formerly the St Pete Times after they bought and shut down the Tampa Tribune and laid off 90% of its staff….. The times are a changing…..

I love that movie.

I think a Cleats movie would be a pretty moderate success.
