Gary: Kids, let's start out by keeping your swing simple. Just think of it as a baseball swing, but with your body bent at the waist. Try that until you can hit the ball consistently. Then you can spend the next fifty years messing it up with the details.
When I was in 8th grade, I took some golf lessons, mainly because my best bud had taken up golf. After my first lesson, I was waiting for my mom to pick me up when four guys from my grade showed up and asked if I wanted to play with them. They offered me advice as I stepped to the tee for my first drive and I smacked it right down the middle of the par 4 hole. I outdrove two of them, which was pretty good since one would go on to be State AAA golfer of the year while the other would become a golf pro in Arizona. I was on the green in three but triple putted for a double bogey. Still, not bad for a first hole and I was thinking this is going to be easy. Second hole was a par-five, uphill, dog leg and I was all over the place. Shot a 15 (!) on my second hole. Not going to be as easy as I thought.

If I could take my range game to the course I’d be on the tour. It is amazing how much of a mental game golf can be.

turn dad around left handed and he looks like Freddie Freeman’s swing. I always wondered how freddie does so good with that hideous swing
