    Bray Productions’ output included the Colonel Heeza Liar and Bobby Bumps series. Max Fleischer and Paul Terry made the first Out of the Inkwell and Farmer Al Falfa cartoons for Bray before striking out on their own.

    Teddy Bears were huge in 1908, not long after the canned hunt where Teddy declined the honor or potting a tied-down cub. I found out that “Teddy Bears’ Picnic” comes from then, though the lyrics weren’t added until decades later.

    I listen sometimes to a 78 side of the piece from then, and it’s interesting that right where the line “At six o’clock, their mommies and daddies…” would be, there are six strokes of a large bell. Perhaps that inspired the lyricist.
