I wonder what literary or world events influenced this comic. The US Civil war had been over for 45 years, there was relative peace in Europe and the Slavic countries, at least for the next 7 or 8 years. 1910 was in the middle of the British Raj which may have been represented by the Knights and Maidens, but I’m not an expert on that. So this is indeed very strange.

Totally agree. A very strange comic. Not least of all is the “fair yellow lemon” .
