Back in the 70s when digital clocks were still a novelty, my sister and her husband bought a new stove. The man installing it remarked, “I see it’s got one of them-there fancy diagonal clocks on it.”

And we had to walk 20 miles to the clock shop for repairs, in a blizzard, and it was UP HILL, both ways…

And now we have a whole generation that no longer knows the concept of “Clockwise” or “Anti-Clockwise” Future mechanics.. engineers.. plumbers won’t know which way to turn.

I have an antique (>100 yrs old) chiming wall clock. Most of the time I don’t notice the chime, but every now and then when it chimes, it alerts me to the time when I had not been paying attention otherwise. It gains or loses only about a half minute per week (depending on temperature). That’s as accurate as some of the digital clocks in my abode. I do have to wind it up weekly.

One of my students gave me a ‘math clock.’ The usual numerals are replaced with math problems. You have to solve the problems to know the time. Of course if you know what the numerals are supposed to be, you don’t have to solve the problems. In a way, this is an analog/digital clock.

Downsize that big boy to fit your wrist or a sailing vessel and you’ll always know the approximate direction to south.

Most kids do not realize we wear the term “Boomer” like a proud medal. Yup, boomer, been around long enough to learn most of life’s lessons. And kids now don’t even know what bathroom to use.

Yes, and in spite of all that fancy technology, Boeing still screwed the pooch with its clock on the Starliner mission! That’s what engineering courtesy of private sector clowns and idiots gets us for our tax dollar.
